It opens studies from CT, MRI, ultrasound, X-ray and other equipment, and it also opens common picture formats such as JPEG and PNG. It is free for non-commercial use.

MicroDicom shell extension shows DICOM images directly in Windows File Explorer. DICOM files appear as thumbnails and in the preview pane, and you can see information from their DICOM tags when you hold the mouse over a file. It is a separate free download.
Download the installer from the Downloads page, run it and follow the instructions. If you do not want to install anything, use the portable ZIP package: extract it to a folder and start mDicom.exe. The shell extension has its own installer on the same page.
